Official ARES Section activations in Minnesota are state-level activations authorized by the Section Emergency Coordinator, as requested by the Minnesota State Duty Officer, Minnesota Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (MNVOAD), or by local emergency management agencies.
Recently, Section Emergency Coordinator Benton Jackson (K0BHJ) led a delegation of Minnesota ARES operators participating in the MN Department of Public Safety Emergency Communications Network (MN-ECN) exercise, designated “COMMEX NorthStar,” held at Camp Ripley.
The exercise brought together public safety radio personnel, COMTs, and AuxComm emergency radio operators to practice multi-agency inter-operability, cross-band tactical nets, and resilient digital messaging during complex disaster response scenarios across Minnesota.
